SEMESTER RULES
TOTAL PERIOD OF STUDY
The normal duration of Bachelors, Masters and M.S / M. Phil program will be as under:
a) 4 years Bachelors (BS) after twelve years education Four Years
c) 2 years master after 14 year education (MA/M.Sc) Two Years
d) 2 years M.S / M. Phil after 16 year education Two Years
CLASS ATTENDANCE
EVALUATION SYSTEM
The number and nature of tests and assignments depends on the nature of course. However, in case of taught courses there will be at least one home assignment, two quizzes and two tests (mid -term and final examination) in each course with the weightage as under:
A. Assignments:
i.) Assignment 10%
ii.) Quizzes 10%
iii.) Class Attendance 05%
B. Mid Term 25%
C. Final Term 50%
To pass a course, student must obtain ‘D’ grade (50 % marks) separately in Assignment, Mid semester and Final examination. In case of MS / M.Phil to pass a course, student must
obtain 60% marks (GP 2.3) separately in assignment, Mid term and Final examination.
Duration of Examinations: In view of the weightage for the various examinations the duration of the papers will be as follows:
i. Mid Term Examination: One hour
ii. Final Examination: Two hours
Comprehensive Examination: There shall be a qualifying Comprehensive Examination only for 2 years MS / M.Phil degree at the end of the program. A maximum of two chances will be given to a candidate to pass the Comprehensive Examination. The Comprehensive Examination will be held twice a year.

1. Equivalence in numerical grades, letter grades and grade points will be as follows:

3. Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average for obtaining 4 years Bachelors (BS) and 2 years MA/ M. Sc degree is 2.00.
4. Minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average for obtaining 2 year MS/ M.Phil is 2.50.
RULES FOR PROMOTION
BS and MA/M.Sc
1. At the end of the first semester a student must obtain a minimum Grade Point average (GPA) of 2.00 (and qualify all the courses) to be promoted to the second semester.
2. In case a student is able to obtain GPA of 1.50 or more but less than 2.00 she will be promoted to the second Semester on probation. The candidate, who fails to secure 1.50 GPA in the first Semester, shall stand automatically dropped from the rolls.
3. At the end of the second semester, a student must obtain a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.00 and must also pass at least 50% of the courses offered by her in order to be promoted to the third semester. If any of the preceding two conditions is not complied with by a student she shall be removed from the rolls of the Department / Centre / Institute / College.
4. In all the following semesters a student has to maintain CGPA 2.00 for her promotion otherwise she will be removed from the rolls of the Department / Centre / Institute. If a student has not availed opportunity of probation during the first two semesters then she will have the right to avail probation once in the following semesters.
5. In the third semester a student will be required to repeat those courses of the first semester in which she had failed.
6. In the fourth, sixth, eighth and tenth semester, a student will be required to repeat those courses of the second, fourth, sixth and / or eighth semester in which she had failed.
7. A student, who completes all the courses and has not been required to repeat any course(s), obtains CGPA of less than 2.00 but not less than 1.90 at the end of the
4th semester in case of 2 years MA / M.Sc., 8th semester in case of 4 years BS may be allowed to repeat up to two courses (varying from 2 to 4 credit hours each) in which she had obtained the lowest grades, in order to improve the CGPA so as to obtain the minimum of 2.00 failing which she shall not be awarded degree and removed from the rolls of the Department / Centre / Institute.
2 years MS/ M. Phil
1. At the end of the first semester a student must obtain a minimum Grade Point average (GPA) of 2.50 to be promoted to the second semester.
2. In case a student is able to obtain GPA of 2.30 or more but less than 2.50 she will be promoted to the second Semester on probation. The candidate, who fails to secure 2.30 GPA in the first Semester, shall stand automatically dropped from the rolls.
3. At the end of the second semester, a student must obtain a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.50 and must also pass at least 50% of the courses offered by her in order to be promoted to the third semester. If any of the preceding two conditions is not complied with by a student then she shall be removed from the rolls of the Department / Centre / Institute.
4. In the 3rd and 4th semesters a student will carry out research under the supervision of her supervisor and submit research thesis / report / project by the end of 4th semester.
5. In the third semester a student will also be required to repeat those courses of the first semester in which she had failed and maintains CGPA of 2.50 failing which her name will be removed from the Department / Centre / Institute.
6. In the fourth semester, a student will be required to repeat those courses of the second semester in which she had failed and maintains CGPA of 2.50 failing which her name will be removed from the Department / Centre / Institute.
7. A student, who completes all the courses and has not been required to repeat any course(s), obtains CGPA of less than 2.50 but not less than 2.40 at the end of the
4th semester, may be allowed to repeat one course (varying 2-4 credits) in which she had obtained the lowest grades, in order to improve the CGPA so as to obtain the minimum of 2.50 failing which she shall not be awarded degree and removed from the rolls of the Department / Centre / Institute.
ADMISSION POLICY 2013
Eligibility for BS or Equivalent:
The candidates holding F.A/ F.Sc or equivalent qualification and age not more than 24 years are eligible for admission in BS or equivalent. 2 marks will be deducted from percent academic marks for each late session to a maximum of two sessions. Candidates qualified prior to two years will not be eligible. Clearance of Pre-Admission Entry Test is mandatory for the admission against merit as well as reserved seats
Eligibility for MA/M.Sc or Equivalent:
The candidates holding B.A/ B.Sc (14-Years of Education) or equivalent qualification and age not more than 26 years are eligible for admission in MA/M.Sc or equivalent. 2 marks will be deducted from percent academic marks for each late session to a maximum of two sessions. Candidates qualified prior to two years will not be eligible. Clearance of Pre-admission Entry Test is mandatory for the admission against merit as well as reserved seats.
Eligibility for MS/M.Phil or Equivalent/ Ph.D:
The candidates seeking admission in MS/ M.Phil or equivalent Program shall qualify GAT-General conducted by National Testing Service (NTS), by obtaining a minimum of 50% marks, prior to admission while the candidate for the Ph. D program shall qualify the following test prior to admission.
i) Subject test conducted by NTS in the area of specialization.
OR
GRE test conducted by ETS, USA.
The requirement of marks/ percentile score for the qualification of subject test for admission in Ph. D is as under:
Subject test conducted by NTS. 60% marks
OR
GRE conducted by ETS, USA percentile score 60
The applicant must have sixteen year education (BS / MA / M. Sc or equivalent) with 2.5/4.0 CGPA or 1st division for admission in MS/ M. Phil or equivalent and eighteen year education (MS/ M.Phil ) with 3.0/4.0 CGPA or 1st division for admission in Ph.D.
NOTE: The applicants, admitted in MS/ M.Phil/ Ph.D programs from other provinces, who have not studied subject of English in B.Sc (14 year education) shall have to pass two English courses of 2 credit hour each of BS program of The Women University to become eligible for the award of MS/ M.Phil/ Ph.D degree.
